a letter from the editor

hello! in the whirlwind haste of compiling this issue, i neglected to write an editor's note to you all. though there's not much to say, and this true-to-life heat has sapped our energy, i wanted to check in and say hi. this issue originally released on 8/8, and it's been our most successful yet! since then, myself (isaura) and reader kate belt have had birthdays pass. what a lovely present this is!

really, the timing of heatwave's release was uncanny. our uk contributors found themselves in the midst of the worst heatwave of the year when it dropped, and this past week, we here on the west coast have experienced triple-digit temperatures that marked an early start to fire season.

it seems only fitting, then, that these 68 pieces should address this all-consuming heat in every form, from the weather to the body to the ever-present specter of climate change. wherever you are in the world, we hope that this issue of perhappened mag can assure you that you're not alone in this. so sit back, feel the burn, and let it simmer. dive into the deep end of summer with us!
