for this ninth issue of perhappened mag, we brought an inaugural guest reader on board: poet & essayist chris l. butler, whose piece "rotten fruit" was the penultimate stunner of our second issue last summer!
Chris L. Butler (he/him) is an African American and Dutch, Pushcart Prize nominated poet, and essayist from Philadelphia, PA and Houston, TX. His debut micro chapbook, BLERD: '80s BABY, '90s KID (Daily Drunk Press) is set to be released in August 2021. He is an Editor at Bending Genres and Versification Zine.
together, we managed to wade through a flood of subs. we asked for a downpour, and we certainly received one! sincerely, thank you for sending us your seasonal words.
while these pieces will have you reveling in milder times, the reality for millions in the american south is far from pleasant. you can assist post-winter storm relief efforts in texas by donating to feeding texas or austin disaster relief network.
finally, although every sub left us pining for spring, these twenty stunning pieces shone above and beyond and pierced through the clouds of late winter. if you're ready to stand in their light, all you have to do is read on.
