My heart

was in my throat                                                  every second we were

in the air,                                                                                                         and not because

I am afraid                                                    of heights,                                      but because I knew

the second                                                                                                       we got off

that ferris wheel,                                                         it would end,

and we wouldn’t

be the same people                                                            who got on.

Yelaina Anton was raised in a small city outside Boston, USA and is currently studying Creative Writing at National University of Ireland Galway. She writes fiction and poetry, with the occasional non-fiction or script. Her guilty pleasures are reading too many novels and drinking too much coffee.
