issue 3: HEATWAVE

august 4th:

night in a motel whose name burned in the heat
SY BRAND
I’ll forget the night’s dream
as drenched sheets swell

from limbs shot west
and dark clouds willed

to
   tap
to
   tap
to
   tap
   tap
   tap on glass half-lit--
come in from the haze

to cool waking sweat
from touchless lakes,

the memory of blankets
lost when the sky

remembered the daylight,
dried out with my eyes.

Sy is a queer non-binary poet living in Edinburgh, Scotland. They write through the haze of cat-/child-induced sleep deprivation to try and make sense of gender, relationships, and ADHD. Their work has been published in Popshot Quarterly, Capsule Stories, and ZARF Poetry among others. You can find them on Twitter @TartanLlama and their publications at sybrand.ink.
