a letter from the editor

hello! welcome to perhappened mag's first-ever special issue, MIXTAPE. for this issue, we asked submitters to write a piece inspired by one song and their memories attached to it. as you can imagine, this led to our most diverse range of works yet!

so close your eyes and surrender to the buzz: the thrum of wings. the drumbeat of water. the distant rumble of thunder. the hum of young love and maybe-love and never-was-love. the rushing of rivers that carry us home.

we hope you love what you hear.

how to listen along

apple music

spotify

youtube

for recommended listening:

♡ listen to the "mixtape" in order.
♡ read each piece with its song!
♡ do NOT skip ahead!

but you can also:

♡ pick & choose pieces by songs (and vice versa).
♡ hit shuffle & let the music choose your reading order!
♡ hit shuffle & disregard the pairings: just read.
(you wild thing.)

additionally, the song titles at the top of each piece are youtube audio links, if you'd prefer to skip around and listen/read in the order you choose!

♪ ready? put your mixtape on. ♫
